Why is taking a good history important to the diagnosis and treatment of the patient?
What will be an ideal response?
History taking helps to rule in or rule out diseases and agents of disease. It helps us to identify contributing causes to disease such as improper husbandry, nutrition, or management. A good history will also help the doctor give a prognosis and prescribe a course of treatment. An incomplete history may cause the doctor to perform unnecessary tests or prescribe medications that have previously failed, costing the owner money, time, and potentially the animal's life.
