Explain why plea bargaining is so crucial to the criminal justice system

What will be an ideal response?

One reason for a plea deal is that preparation for trial is a time-consuming and costly
endeavor. Furthermore, the court has only so much time to hear cases. With few exceptions,
plea bargaining is an integral part of the path in a criminal trial because it keeps the costs of justice affordable.
