Discuss the aims of cryptography.
What will be an ideal response?
Cryptography is based on the science of mathematics and has two aims. The first is to protect the confidentiality of data by scrambling it in such a way that it is unreadable by anyone but authorized people. The second aim is to provide a scientific basis for authenticating message integrity. As a result, cryptography has become the commonly accepted mechanism to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of data in the electronic universe. Since the assurance of confidentiality and integrity is the cornerstone of trust, cryptography has become an important practical function in today's business world.
