Why would we use an ABA versus an ABAB design?

What will be an ideal response?

An ABA design is useful to demonstrate experimental control of an operant behavior by a treatment (B). If the operant is under control, the response strength should drop back to baseline levels in the second A phase. In clinical settings, it is often preferable to introduce the treatment a second time, rather than leaving the behavior at baseline levels.
