Long ago we were "double creatures," with 2 heads, 4 arms, 4 legs—and enormous intelligence and arrogance. To teach humans a lesson, Zeus struck the creatures down and cut them in two, so that each resulting half-person now had to walk around the world looking for his or her other half.
