Focusing on three strategies for teaching generalization, discuss how a teacher might use these strategies

for promoting generalized reading skills.

What will be an ideal response?

Three strategies for teaching generalization of reading skills:
1) Introduce to natural maintenance contingencies: To teach generalization of reading skills a teacher may choose to use naturally reinforcing, highly preferred reading materials. The reading of the high interest material may reinforce the application of the reading skills.
2) General case programming: During initial reading instruction, general case programming can be
used to teach phonetic decoding by providing words with similar construction using onset/rime and providing positive and negative examples.
3) Using multiple activities: Generalization can be trained for reading skills by using multiple activities. For example, having the students work on decoding simple consonant-vowel-consonant words through drill and practice, as well as independent readers and computer activities.
