What are two types of defenses that plants have evolved in response to herbivory?
What will be an ideal response?
Some plants have adapted to withstand and recover quickly from herbivory. For example, prairie grasses are seldom killed by native grazers. The grasses store enough resources in roots to grow back lost shoots.
Other plants have traits that deter herbivory. Such traits include spines or thorns, leaves that are hard to chew or digest, and chemicals that taste bad or sicken herbivores.
