You use the Formula Builder in the Toolbox to find the average of the values in a range of cells by clicking in a cell to make it active and the clicking the Formula Builder button in the Functions group. This opens the Toolbox with the Formula Builder tab selected. Type average in the Formula Builder search field and then double-click AVERAGE in the functions list that opens. The function =AVERAGE() is entered in the active cell and in the formula bar. The Formula Builder changes to display the arguments section, where the insertion point is now located. Select the range of cells you want and click the Enter button. The average value of the selected range of cells is displayed in the active cell.
