Criminologists have suggested that there would be benefits to the decriminalization of illegal drugs. What assumptions support this suggestion?

What will be an ideal response?

Answer: Citizens have the right to be protected from state interference in behavior that does no harm to society. Drug addicts should be treated as patients rather than prosecuted as criminals. The criminalization of drugs has not stopped their use. Resources used to prosecute drug offenses could be used to deal with serious crime. The criminalization of drugs raises their price and leads to secondary crimes to support expensive habits.
