Describe the example-selection guidelines that apply to teaching students to round off multi-digit divisors when solving multi-digit division problems

What will be an ideal response?

Several example-selection guidelines apply to this format: (a) half of the numbers to be rounded off should have a numeral less than five in the ones column, while the other half should have five or a numeral greater than five, (b) about two-thirds of the examples should be three-digit numbers and about one-third should be two-digit numbers, and (c) numbers that may cause particular difficulty for students should not be included in initial exercises. The two types of numbers that may cause difficulty during initial exercises are numbers in which the last two digits are 95 or greater (because numbers in which the last two digits are 95 or greater require rounding off to the next hundreds grouping) and numbers that have a zero in the tens column.
