Discuss Miranda in relation to questioning during a booking procedure

What will be an ideal response?

Routine booking questions are exempt from Miranda's coverage. In the 1990 case of Pennsylvania v. Muniz, the U.S. Supreme Court held that questions and answers as to "name, address, height, weight, eye color, date of birth, and current age—did not constitute custodial interrogation ... (and) fall within a routine booking question exception, which exempts from Miranda's coverage questions to secure the 'biographical data necessary to complete booking or pretrial service." The U.S. Supreme Court pointed out with approval that the trial court in the Muniz case held that these questions were "requested for recordkeeping purposes only" and therefore "appear reasonably related to the police's administrative concerns."
