Why was iron was so significant to the development of civilization? How and where it was used?

What will be an ideal response?

Answers will vary. Iron use was significantly different from the earlier use of bronze because it was cheaper to make and more readily available. It was also stronger and more durable than bronze. It could be used for weaponry, chariots, plows, and farming implements and therefore had broad-reaching benefits to military, agricultural, technological, and cultural applications. It inspired long-range trade and made farming easier in more arid and/or hard-soil areas. Thus, iron indirectly helped in the expansion of empires.
