From a feminist perspective, explain why should we care about the underrepresentation of women in STEM?
What will be an ideal response?
One reason we should care about the underrepresentation of women in STEM is that we want women to have equal opportunities in all areas of life, and the data seem to indicate that they don’t have equal opportunity in some of these fields. Second, these are jobs that pay very well and where there is much demand for workers. These jobs definitely beat unemployment or some of the low-wage jobs that women are typically stuck in. For many women, STEM jobs represent real opportunities for themselves and their families, as many women are the sole support or the major supporter of their family.
