What is the difference between Shia and Sunni Muslims?

Sunni Muslims represent the majority of Muslims and believe that the rightful successor to the Prophet Muhammad was Abu Bakr. Shia Muslims, on the other hand, are a minority and believe that the rightful successor to the Prophet was Ali. Additionally, Shia Muslims make more literal interpretations of the Quran.
