Discuss the importance of risk and protective factors in prevention.

What will be an ideal response?

Understanding risk factors for certain types of child abuse and neglect allows for prevention models to be crafted to mitigate those risk factors. Likewise, knowing what protective factors decrease the likelihood for different types of abuse can and should be considered in prevention. Sometimes, it is possible to increase or support protective factors, thereby decreasing risk. Knowing the different risk and protective factors for different types of abuse is important because they vary from type to type, thus the prevention efforts or programming would also vary.
