Discuss the responsibilities of a manager in regard to group status.
What will be an ideal response?
To be effective, the manager should have high status in the case of a command group. For task groups, it’s important for the manager to maintain good relations with the group, especially with any high-status informal leaders within the group. In this way, the manager can help ensure that those informal leaders endorse and maintain positive norms within the group, as high-status members are key to setting norms. Manager should stay aware of any conflicts resulting from status incongruence and address those conflicts as they emerge. While it would be ideal if all group members had roughly equal status, when that isn’t the case the manager must ensure that lower-status individuals continue to be heard and feel included to preserve cohesiveness within the group.
