Explain the shortcomings associated with the watchman style of policing

What will be an ideal response?

The watchman style of policing is arguably the least professional of James Q. Wilson's three distinct policing styles. The lack of professionalism stems from officers using too much discretion and lacking concern for resolving a conflict in the best interests of all parties involved. For example, instead of making an arrest or mediating a dispute, the watchman-style officer might rough up or threaten someone physically to discourage future criminal behavior. This policing mentality was observed in the Rodney King incident in Los Angeles. The watchman-style officer acts as judge and jury when deciding how to handle illegal behavior. This type of behavior creates poor relationships with citizens and thus does nothing to promote positive police-community relationships.
