Why is collaboration between general ECE and ECSE necessary? How can the DAP guidelines be used as a beginning foundation for such collaboration?

What will be an ideal response?

Collaboration between general ECE and ECSE educators is a must as the demands for services are outpacing resources in both fields. Collaboration begins by first understanding what constitutes the recommended practices in each field. Practitioners must understand their similarities and their differences and then work toward a model that supports children of all abilities. The DAP guidelines can serve as a foundation for collaboration since they share many similarities with ECSE services/programs. They exist in the same settings and focus on individualized needs of each child while also being mindful of cultural background and learning in the natural environment. For ECSE practitioners, extended focus might be on the family's role and paying particular attention to how services are delivered to children with disabilities.
