Explain why myoglobin is useful to oxidative (aerobic) catabolism

What will be an ideal response?

Oxidative (aerobic) catabolism is the reason we need oxygen to survive. Myoglobin binds oxygen that has diffused into the muscle cell from the extracellular fluid. Oxygen is released from myoglobin as mitochondria perform oxidative catabolism. Oxidative catabolism utilizes oxygen to produce ATP. Thus myoglobin supplements oxygen delivery to mitochondria.
