Female officers have few female superiors who might be able to mentor them.Women must deal with an added layer of scrutiny as male officers may feel that they are unsuited to the job or should be protected while working.Women also face the problem of tokenism, or the belief that they have been hired or promoted to fulfill diversity requirements and have not earned their positions.Unfortunately, some female officers must deal with sexual harassment on the job.
