Reforms and interventions
The text discusses reforms and interventions and provides a number of examples of each. Define the term "reform" and differentiate it from the term "interventions," giving at least two fairly recent examples of each (i.e., within your lifetime). Discuss one reform and one intervention with which you are familiar. (If possible, relate it to your intended major.) Then identify some pros and cons of each. Explain your viewpoint on each and justify your response.

ANS: Scoring guide:
Key elements that should appear in an appropriate response:
* A student should begin to answer the first part of the assignment by defining the two terms, explaining how they differ, and providing two fairly recent examples of each. Full credit depends on clarity of the first part and accuracy and completeness of the second part.
* The second part of the question requires students to use their reading, discussion, and experience to identify one reform and one intervention and to describe the salient qualities of each, giving careful attention to the positive and negative aspects. Points can be added or deducted for the thoroughness of the response.
* The third part of the assignment is a personal and professional judgment and requires the student to provide a solid rationale for each of the categories. Full credit depends on the logic and thoroughness of the response.
