When you are taking your pulse, what physical event related to the cardiac cycle are you feeling?

What will be an ideal response?

The bulging of an artery with each ventricular contraction is the pulse. Arteries have an outer covering of highly elastic connective tissue and with each ventricular contraction, blood is forced into the arteries making the arterial wall expand or bulge. Then, as the ventricle relaxes, the artery wall springs back like a rubber band that has been stretched. Therefore, one pulse equals one heartbeat.
