Everyone in the classroom who has a book (is/are) studying for the exam.

Sometimes an element comes between the subject and predicate. Be sure you do not think the noun in the element is the subject of the sentence. In the following sentences, cross through the modifier (the element between the subject and predicate) and then select the appropriate verb for the predicate.
