Most people do not understand why it is important for humans to be concerned about preventing the extinction of amphibian species when there are so many, seemingly more pressing issues. List three reasons why people should be interested in maintaining amphibians and explain why each reason is important.

What will be an ideal response?

Humans should care about preventing the extinction of amphibian species for a variety of reasons. First, amphibians are sensitive biological indicators of changes in environmental conditions. Second, adult amphibians play important ecological roles in biological communities and in some habitats, the extinction of certain amphibians could lead to extinction of other species of amphibians, insects, reptiles, birds, fish, and mammals that feed on amphibians or their larvae. Third, amphibians are a genetic storehouse of pharmaceutical products waiting to be discovered.
