The first way it would be beneficial is that alcohol use is a very common social lubricant. College students rarely drink alone. As such, a focus group with a group of college students may encourage them to talk about topics they may have felt strange about talking about during a one-on-one interview. The second way is that focus groups mimic more real-life settings in which alcohol use occurs. This may allow for spontaneous exchange of ideas among peers, rather than between an interviewer and their interviewee.
