Answer: Iron is important -baby's stores are depleted by 6 months, children 1-2 yrs drink more low iron cow's milk , not enough meat, teens needs increase 40% for males and 90% for females due to lean body mass and blood volume increasing; menstruating in females; Calcium -majority of bone growth occurs between 9-18 years of age-need more then, milk intake has decreased, especially in females (drink soda instead); fluoride for teeth; zinc -can impair growth if deficient; folate-for normal growth, especially teenage women reaching childbearing age; Vitamin D-role in bone development, especially needed in places with little sunlight exposure, infants should receive supplement in formula; Vitamin K -infants born with little to no stores-don't have bacteria to make either yet, AAP recommends all babies get dose at birth.
