Describe the form and function of slow-twitch muscles

Slow-twitch muscles obtain most of their energy from the oxidative system. They contract relatively slowly; have many mitochondria, a rich capillary bed supplying the muscle with oxygen and nutrients, and abundant myoglobin; and are slow to fatigue. Slow-twitch muscles would tend to dominate in marathon runners.
