(Wording may vary) A referendum is a vote held by citizens on an existing law. Within 90 days of a law going into effect, voters may challenge the law by first gathering enough signatures to prompt a referendum vote, and if enough signatures are collected and the referendum qualifies for the ballot, then the voters may reject or retain the law at election time.
