Describe three ways that Münsterberg contributed to what we now call applied psychology.
What will be an ideal response?
Münsterberg treated many mentally ill people for free (since he was seeing them for
scientific reasons), and created a treatment strategy called reciprocal antagonism,
which involved strengthening the thoughts opposite to the thoughts that were causing a
patient problems. In addition, he was the first person to apply psychological principles
to legal matters, this creating forensic psychology. A third contribution was his work
on personnel selection, increasing work efficiency, and marketing and advertising
techniques, all of which are part of what we now call industrial psychology.
