Each of the basic perspectives - ecological, functionalist, interactionist, and conflict - focuses on different aspects of and asks different questions about social reality. None is complete in and of itself. Social life is so complex that no single set of theories can explain everything. Research that combines the insights of different perspectives greatly increases the understanding and predictive power of its observations.
