Explain how evidence, circumstances, and investigative effort in solving crimes.

What will be an ideal response?

It is important to realize that evidence is not equally available in all crimes. Some crimes produce more evidence than others, which of course plays a major role in the police’s ability to solve crimes. Next, the circumstances of the crime are critical, for example, where the crime occurs. Some circumstances are more likely to produce reliable and extensive evidence or allow investigators to draw conclusions, while others may not. It should be noted that circumstances alone do not determine whether a crime is solved. Investigative effort also plays a role. More effort dedicated to a case may lead to more evidence, which may in turn lead to a better chance of a suspect being identified and eventually apprehended. Not surprisingly, the more serious a crime, the more effort that may be dedicated to solving it.
