These may not be in the safest or most well-connected areas of a community. Shared housing is taking on roommates or additional family members in a household to share expenses. This may lead to greater wear and tear on the home, lack of privacy, and strained relationships. Halfway houses are options for people leaving incarceration or inpatient treatment. They typically have rules and regulations that must be met for housing to continue. Shelters are short-term answers for people who have nowhere else to go. The communal living aspect of a shelter can be a major challenge and add to individuals' anxiety.
