First, an ore body must be located that can be economically extracted. A suitable mining technique is used depending upon the type and concentration of the ore body. The desired minerals must be extracted from the ore using a suitable technique (usually by smelting). The mineral is then processed further so it becomes a product that can be sold. After a product is no longer useable or desirable, it is either discarded as solid waste or recycled.
