How should therapeutic and specialized interventions such as speech language or occupational therapy be delivered to young children with delays or disabilities? What are two important considerations that should be made in terms of delivering these services in the preschool classroom?

What will be an ideal response?

Therapy and interventions must be delivered during naturally occurring, ongoing, and routine events and activities. These services can usually be delivered without major adaptations in the environment. This is important for two reasons: (1) Social considerations for the child receiving services: educators and professionals should limit the amount of undue attention given to young children related to their delay or disabilities; (2) Functional reasons: children with delays or disabilities must learn to interact within their natural environment, and so, little to no adaptations should be made so that young children with delays or disabilities learn to navigate, participate, and communicate in their natural environment.
