Evaluate DARE at a local school
What will be an ideal response?
This is a time consuming project and should involve more than one student. If you can get access into a school, ascertain with officials whether the program has been successful or not. In most cases there is little evaluation.
Studies of DARE show it doesn't work while police departments still offer the program throughout the nation. At the beginning of the DARE course you need to collect data on income of parents, single parent or two parent families, occupations of parents, drug, cigarette and alcohol use of the juveniles, using standard questions for the DARE class and a comparable class. Students then need to collect cigarette, alcohol, and drug use data for both classes at the end of the class and a semester after the class ended. Students then compare the answers and see if there is a drop in cigarette, alcohol, and drug use by either the DARE class or the comparable class.
