In what range of masses are most stars found? What about the range in luminosity? How are they related?
What will be an ideal response?
To shine as a main sequence star, the mass needs to be at least .08 solar masses; the most massive known are rarely more than 20 solar masses. By contrast the least luminous stars are about 10,000 times fainter, and the most luminous ones close to a million times brighter than the Sun. The relationship is approximately that luminosity is equal to about the fourth power of the mass for main sequence stars.
