Discuss the laws and political development of abortion rights in the U.S

What will be an ideal response?

Answer: In the founding years of the U.S., abortion was legal, but fell out of favor. By 1873, the Comstock Act criminalized the distribution or possession of devices, medication, or information used for abortion or contraception. In 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court said in the case Roe v. Wade, all women gained the constitutional right to an abortion in the first 6 months of their pregnancy. There is still much contention and argument both publically and politically about the women's rights and abortion. In addition, the issues of late-term and partial-birth abortions have further continued the argument. While abortions remain legal, state rulings seek to amend the language, Congress blocked the use of federal money, and groups rally to pass a Constitutional amendment to ban abortion. Currently 86% of counties in the U.S. have no abortion services.
