Within a population of fish,exists in the form of body color. Some fish are orange and some are red.
Answer: This is an example of genetic variation. It helps fishes to survive and protect themselves against predation. Red and orange color of fishes arise due to genetic variation. Fishes with orange body color that live on orange coral reef blend in easily and have greater chances of survival than red colored fishes. As a reult, the gene for body color is transferred to their offsprings resulting in a greater population of orange fishes. This is known as natural selection and fishes are said to be selected for orange color i.e. they will leave large number of offsprings. In this way, natural selection leads to evolution.
