Summarize the major advantage of using YACs to carry genome libraries. What will be an ideal response?

ANSWER: If a human genomic library were made using DNA fragments in the size range that plasmids
can carry, about 8 million plasmids would be needed to make sure the library included all the
genetic information from one human cell. Yeast artificial chromosome (YACs) were
developed to carry DNA fragments up to 1 million bases long. A human genomic library can
be carried in just over 3,000 YACs and it is much easier to search through 3,000 clones rather
than 8 million clones in looking for a specific gene
