What method did psychologists use to determine the Big Five personality traits?

What will be an ideal response?

Psychologists listed all the words in the English language that describe personality traits. Then they eliminated synonyms and antonyms. Of the remaining items, they looked for clusters of traits that correlate strongly with one another. They reported finding five clusters, each of which included many items that correlate with one another without correlating with any of the other four clusters. The resulting five clusters became the five personality traits.
