Name and define three types of case studies

What will be an ideal response?

Intrinsic case study: A case study approach that is undertaken when the researcher wants to better understand a particular case because of its uniqueness, not because it represents other cases or illustrates a particular trait, characteristic, or problem.
Instrumental case study: A case study that provides insights into an issue or refines a theoretical explanation to make it more generalizable by focusing on a single issue or concern and identifying a single case to illustrate this item of concern. In this type of study, the case is a secondary role providing a backdrop over which the larger theoretical question or issue will play out. The case is chosen because the researcher believes it will be useful in advancing the research subject.
Collective case study: Case studies that involve extensive study of several instrumental cases intended to allow better understanding and improved ability to theorize about a broader context. This type is also known as multiple case study, cross-case study, and comparative case study.
