How would a small-group activity in a traditional program differ from a small-group activity in an emergent curriculum program?

What will be an ideal response?

In a traditional program, small-group activities are teacher directed. The educator often focuses on teaching a specific concept. To accomplish this, the teacher must carefully plan the activity. In an emergent curriculum program, the activity is child directed, not teacher directed. The teacher acts as a facilitator by asking open ended questions. By doing this, the teacher stimulates thinking and discussion. This process allows children to explore their ideas. When planning for such a program, the teacher must make sure to enable children’s thinking, but not to direct their thinking.
