Explain why the biological species concept cannot be applied to organisms such as bacteria and some rotifers. What will be an ideal response?

The biological species concept applies only to sexually reproducing organisms. Bacteria
reproduce asexually as do bdelloid rotifers. In fact, All bdelloid rotifers are females, and they
produce offspring without needing males. Both organisms have considerable exchange of
genetic material by means of horizontal gene transfer.
