What are the three classes of brasses and how are they used?
What will be an ideal response?
Brasses fall into three general classes. White brasses contain less than 55 percent copper and are hard and brittle. They are used for cast products and cannot be hammered or worked without breaking. Alpha brasses contain 63 to 95 percent copper and are the easiest type to work. They are used to make radiator parts, springs, grilles, hardware and decorative plating. Alpha-beta brasses contain 55 to 63 percent copper. They are stronger than alpha brasses and can be worked hot. They are used where strength is important, such as for rivets and screws.
