1. Superior–subordinate: Dyadic relationships that incorporate hierarchical ranking in which one person in the organization reports to another. They emphasize task-focused content.
2. Coworker: Focus on the people who work as peers or colleagues with similar ranks. They often involve large amounts of relationship-focused content.
3. Mentor–protégé: Experts (mentors) provide opportunities for apprentices (protégés) to learn from their advanced knowledge or understanding. They commonly include both task-focused and relationship-focused content.
4. Worker–customer/client: Relationships between a service provider and a customer. They may take on attributes of friendships, at which time relationship-focused content is added to the usual task-related communication.
