Explain how talking and listening in children are important as integrally related modes of language
What will be an ideal response?
Answer: Listening is defined by the International Listening Association as the process of receiving, constructing meaning from, and responding to spoken and/or nonverbal messages. Most of us listen far more than we talk. As children develop language, they do so by listening. Generally, children's comprehension is far greater than their production. Because listening occurs before speaking, we often refer to listening as the primary form of language. The development of listening and of talking occur together. It is difficult to separate the steps in learning to listen from the steps in learning to talk. As children learn to use different forms of their oral language, they do so in an integrated manner.
