Compare peristalsis and segmentation

What will be an ideal response?

Peristalsis occurs in the esophagus and is controlled by the swallowing center of the brainstem. Peristalsis contractions in the stomach function in gastric mixing and emptying. These movements are controlled by local reflexes associated with distension and content of the stomach, chemical signals including CCK and gastrin, and emotions. In the small intestines segmentation mixes and propels chyme. It is initiated by autorhythmic activity and regulated by local and intrinsic nerve input as well as GI hormones.
