Rehearse. Practice for a stressful event in advance so you can polish your performance and build
confidence.
Plan. Figure out how you will respond to the anticipated stress. Learn specific techniques for
dealing with stress, and practice them ahead of time so you can use them during the interview.
Keep things in perspective. If an event seems big, put it in its place. How important is this event,
really, in light of your ultimate goals? Compare it in your mind with bigger events to put it in
perspective.
Get the information you need. A lack of information can negatively affect your ability to perform.
If you are uncertain about what is expected in your job or in an interview setting, ask for the
information you need.
Think positively. Practice the success strategies you learned in Chapter 1. You can reduce stress
with positive thinking, positive visualization, and positive self-talk; by setting goals and tracking
your progress; and by building and maintaining your self-esteem.
Take action. Exercise, yoga, breathing exercises, good health, and nutrition can help you relax and
release stress.
