Describe bacterial meningitis

What will be an ideal response?

Bacterial meningitis is an infection that results in inflammation of the pia-arachnoid layers of the
meninges and the subarachnoid space covering the brain and spinal cord. It is a pyrogenic infection,
and the purulent material spreads quickly through the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The bacteria and
exudate create vascular congestion, and the arachnoid villi can become obstructed. Infections can
occur through the spread of nearby infections (e.g., sinusitis, otitis media, mastoiditis) and through
the blood-borne route to the meninges.
