What is layering? What are some situations in which layering is used to propagate
plants?
What will be an ideal response?
Layering is a method of asexual propagation in which roots are formed on a stem or root
while it is still attached to the parent plant. The stem or root that is rooted is called a
layer. The layer is cut free from the parent only after rooting has taken place. Layering is
used for propagating cane fruits, such as black raspberry or boysenberry. It is also used
for plants that are difficult to root from cuttings.
